Abstract
Nowadays, mentoring, as well as coaching, becomes significant method of relaying knowledge. Its effectiveness has been also recognized in private sector, where it is more and more often practising to teach young professionals. The article deals with theoretical basis of mentoring. It presents various definitions of this process, as well as types and approaches of mentoring, and it also shows functions of corporative mentoring. Furthermore, the article is enriched with practical aspects in the shape of two case studies. These are conclusions from interviews with managers working in financial institute in Lodz, about the role of mentoring in their work career.
