With regard to translation didactics, it is important to realise that translation actions become autonomous, on the one hand, thanks to translators’ newly gained experience, and on the other hand, in strong connection with their knowledge. As far as translators are concerned, it is knowledge from various fields, among others, knowledge from the field of language systems and cultures that are included in the translation. In this respect, what is also of great significance is the knowledge about all participants involved in the translation communication and about extra-linguistic reality, to which the source and the target text refer. Furthermore, the intercultural and cognitive knowledge constitute factors that support translator’s autonomy and thus his communicative effectiveness as well. The aim of this paper is to discuss other qualities from which the autonomy relevant to translating benefits.
