Bulletin of the Section of Logic
Przeglądaj według
The Bulletin of the Section of Logic (BSL) is a quarterly peerreviewed journal published with support of the University of Lodz. Its aim is to act as a forum for timely wide dissemination of novel, significant results in logic through rapid publication of papers not exceding 18 pages. The BSL invites especially the contributions dealing directly with logical calculi, their methodology, application and algebraic interpretations.
Papers may be submitted to the EditorinChief or to any of the Collecting Editors.
BRIEF HISTORY
In 1972: Ryszard Wójcicki, Head of the Section of Logic of the Polish Academy of Sciences, at that time based in Wrocław, launches the newsletterjournal designed for the exchange of scientific results among members of the Section with their national and international partners and cooperators. Jan Zygmunt was the editor of the first six issues of the journal. 1975: Grzegorz Malinowski takes on the responsibility of the Managing Editor. 1992: The Department of Logic of Łódź University, takes over publication from the Polish Academy of Sciences and changes its publication policy into a regular peerreviewed journal. Grzegorz Malinowski becomes EditorinChief. 2012: To continue Polish logical tradition the Editors decided retain the name of the journal unchanged.

An Inferentially ManyValued TwoDimensional Notion of Entailment
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)Starting from the notions of qentailment and pentailment, a twodimensional notion of entailment is developed with respect to certain generalized qmatrices referred to as Bmatrices. After showing that every purely ...
Logics with Impossibility as the Negation and Regular Extensions of the Deontic Logic D2
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)In [1] J.Y. Bèziau formulated a logic called Z. Bèziau’s idea was generalized independently in [6] and [7]. A family of logics to which Z belongs is denoted in [7] by K. In particular; it has been shown in [6] and [7] ...
On Theses without Iterated Modalities of Modal Logics Between C1 and S5. Part 2
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)This is the second, out of two papers, in which we identify all logics between C1 and S5 having the same theses without iterated modalities. All these logics can be divided into certain groups. Each such group depends only ...
A Syntactic Approach to Closure Operation
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)In the paper, tracing the traditional Hilbertstyle syntactic account of logics, a syntactic characteristic of a closure operation defined on a complete lattice follows. The approach is based on observation that the role ...
Deontic Paradoxes and Tableau System for Kalinowski’s Deontic Logic K1
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)In 1953, Jerzy Kalinowski published his paper on the logic of normative sentences. The paper is recognized as one of the first publications on the formal system of deontic logic. The aim of this paper is to present a tableau ...
Identity, Equality, Nameability and Completeness
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)This article is an extended promenade strolling along the winding roads of identity, equality, nameability and completeness, looking for places where they converge. We have distinguished between identity and equality; the ...
Bayesian Propositional Logic
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)We define and investigate from a logical point of view a family of consequence relations defined in probabilistic terms. We call them relations of supporting, and write: ≈w , where w is a probability function on a Boolean ...
On Theses Without Iterated Modalities of Modal Logics Between C1 and S5. Part 1
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)This is the first, out of two papers, in which we identify all logics between C1 and S5 having the same theses without iterated modalities. All these logics canbe divided into certain groups. Each such group depends only ...
Involutive Nonassociative Lambek Calculus: Sequent Systems and Complexity
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)In [5] we study Nonassociative Lambek Calculus (NL) augmented with De Morgan negation, satisfying the double negation and contraposition laws. This logic, introduced by de Grooté and Lamarche [10], is called Classical ...
Some Weak Variants of the Existence and Disjunction Properties in Intermediate Predicate Logics
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)We discuss relationships among the existence property, the disjunction property, and their weak variants in the setting of intermediate predicate logics. We deal with the weak and sentential existence properties, and the ...
From Gentzen to Jaskowski and Back: Algorithmic Translation of Derivations Between the Two Main Systems of Natural Deduction
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)The way from linearly written derivations in natural deduction, introduced by Jaskowski and often used in textbooks, is a straightforward rootfirst translation. The other direction, instead, is tricky, because of the ...
Universality of Logic
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)This paper deals with the problem of universality property of logic. At first, this property is analyzed in the context of firstorder logic. Three senses of the universality property are distinguished: universal applicability, ...
Three Doctrines of the Nature of Mathematics (Some Comments of a Knowledge Theorist)
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)In this note I am reflecting on interrelations between three concepts of truth: (1) that employed by Hilbert arguing his formalist view on the nature of mathematics, (2) Freges idea of truth supported by mathematical ...
The InfiniteValued Łukasiewicz Logic and Probability
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)The paper concerns the algebraic structure of the set of cumulative distribution functions as well as the relationship between the resulting algebra and the infinitevalued Łukasiewicz algebra. The paper also discusses ...
FourValued Logics BD and DM4: Expansions
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)The paper discusses functional properties of some fourvalued logics which are the expansions of fourvalued Belnap’s logic DM4. At first, we consider the logics with two designated values, and then logics defined by ...
Cut Elimination Theorem for NonCommutative Hypersequent Calculus
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)Hypersequent calculi (HC) can formalize various nonclassical logics. In [9] we presented a noncommutative variant of HC for the weakest temporal logic of linear frames Kt4.3 and some its extensions for dense and serial ...
Professor Grzegorz Malinowski in Honorem
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2017)
Preserving Filtering Unification by Adding Compatible Operations to Some Heyting Algebras
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2016)We show that adding compatible operations to Heyting algebras and to commutative residuated lattices, both satisfying the Stone law ¬x ⋁ ¬¬x = 1, preserves filtering (or directed) unification, that is, the property that ...
Irredundant Decomposition of Algebras into OneDimensional Factors
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2016)We introduce a notion of dimension of an algebraic lattice and, treating such a lattice as the congruence lattice of an algebra, we introduce the dimension of an algebra, too. We define a starproduct as a special kind of ...
Some Algebraic and Algorithmic Problems in Acoustocerebrography
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego, 2016)Progress in the medical diagnostic is relentlessly pushing the measurement technology as well with its intertwined mathematical models and solutions. Mathematics has applications to many problems that are vital to human ...
