The article contains a presentation of various systems of&#13;
disability pensions in the economically developed countries of&#13;
Western Europe, the United States and Зарап. The following&#13;
elements of these systems have been described: mode of financing pensions, conditions of granting disability pensions, way of calculating the amount of pensions and additional&#13;
allowances, valorization system.&#13;
The solutions adopted with regard to particular elements are&#13;
differentiated. Their review has allowed to formulate conclusions,&#13;
which might find reference to the Polish conditions.

The article deals with problems concerning the nature of&#13;
incomes indexation and possible solutions as regards its form&#13;
and degree.&#13;
Incomes indexation is understood to mean a process of automatic&#13;
and/or semiautomatic linking of nominal wages increase with increase&#13;
of costs of living taking place in accordance with principles&#13;
fixed earlier and encompassing all persons entitled to compensations&#13;
regardless of the effects of their work.

The author treats a welfare minimum as a category of the social&#13;
policy, which among others should be used to identify households&#13;
suffering from unfavourable living conditions as a result of insufficient&#13;
current incomes and size of possessed material resources,&#13;
as weil as to evaluate this phenomenon quantitatively.&#13;
A special attention has been paid to the existing differentiation&#13;
of incomes and wealth of households in the light of a welfare&#13;
minimum considered to be a minimum Income and minimum equipment of&#13;
a household with consumer durables, and to existing divergences&#13;
between theoretical aspects of using a welfare minimum for appraisal&#13;
of poverty and practice.&#13;
The application of a welfare minimum as a tool for measuring&#13;
poverty in the Polish conditions is supplemented by deliberations&#13;
focussed on selected Western countries.

The present transition to market mechanisms of economy regulation&#13;
accounts for an enhanced interest in conditions of&#13;
microeffective functioning of enterprises. This creates a necessity&#13;
to curb the traditional non-economic functions hitherto performed&#13;
by these economic entities. Hence a topical issue is a question&#13;
regarding advisability, scope and mode of the functioning of the&#13;
so-called plant socio-welfare system. The article presents the findings&#13;
of pilot studies, which aimed at determining employees options in this sphere. Due to a complex social role of these benefits there&#13;
seems justified a view that one of premises behind a gradual departure&#13;
from traditional tasks of an enterprise should be to gather&#13;
evaluations of the socio-welfare system from employees themselves.&#13;
A general conclusion ensuing from these, studies is&#13;
that a necessity of seeking effectiveness-promoting solutions&#13;
in the system of enterprise functioning should not be synonymous&#13;
with abandoning automatically their socio-welfare functions.
