The history of the Library of Łódź University in the years 1981–2014 was marked by three important events: the introduction of The Martial Law, the introduction of computerization, and the enlargement of the Library with another edifice.
The Martial Law reduced the activity of the Library. The examples were, for instance, the limits put on the foreign periodical subscription, the breakdown of foreign purchase, the limits put on the foreign exchange of books.
The process of computerization took place in the mid–1980s. It completely revolutionized all the tasks and turned the Library into a quite modern institution.
The opening of the new building (2006) meant a considerable enlargement of the Library. Then, The Open Access Area came into being, which also provided the self-service and extended the possibilities for using the Internet. Owing to the advanced technical equipment and bigger space, were created better possibilities for organizing numerous cultural events.
