Streszczenie
The purpose of this text is a brief presentation and an introduction to the figure of a somewhat
forgotten Polish artist Henryk Weyssenhoff (1859–1922). He was a truly complete artist
who was thoroughly educated at the Saint Petersburg Academy in Russia, later he studied
in Munich and Paris. His professional output was quite impressive and he left behind numerous
oil paintings such as: Belorussian Cemetery, Spleen, Old Snow, and Manor in Russakowicze.
An important part of the artist’s creative achievements are the abundant book illustrations
made to the texts of his cousin and a renowned writer Józef Weyssenhoff. The illustrations
which he made for such books as: Erotica (1910) and The sable and an unmarried woman
(1913) deserve special attention.
