Polski rynek pracy w cieniu COVID-19. Obraz w mediach zajmujących się problematyką gospodarczą
Streszczenie
Scientifi c analyses require reliable data, and as a result they appear with a considerable delay in
relation to new events or phenomena. The same situation occurs in relation to the COVID-19
pandemic. In my article I focused on analysing how the pandemic aff ected the Polish labour
market from a perspective of mass-media devoted to economic issues. While the fi rst weeks of
the pandemic were dominated by texts on long-term impact and information on experiences
from other countries, articles of a causal and interventional nature began to dominate over time.
Due to lack of reliable data the media presented fragmented data received from public institutions
and public opinion surveys with low quality and sometimes contradictory information.
Some articles treated the pandemic as a catalyst of accelerated and desirable changes, especially
related to work arrangements and intercontinental labour division. Despite strongly articulated
expectations for public intervention, the problems related to the scale of the observed
challenges were perceived as real.
