One of the most interesting monuments in Warsaw’s Wola district is the Church of St. Lawrence. The origins of the temple date back to the 17th century, then on the initiative of the Saxon minister Heinrich von Brühl, architects associated with the patronage of August III Wettin (including Joachim Daniel Jauch and Johann Friedrich Knöbel) prepared a number of architectural concepts. The design process deserves special attention due to the high class and variety of solutions appearing in the subsequent stages of work. The article analyzes both the Baroque investment and the later fate of the building, which in the 19th century was transformed into an Orthodox church and rebuilt according to the designs of Adam Idźkowski.
