Abstract

Ozorków is a town located in the Metropolitan Area of Lodz. In the 1980s there was a severe crisis in the secondary economic sector. A few years later, two biggest factories went bankrupt, causing enormous unemployment rate increase, and soon deopopulation processes began. The exceptionally bad economic situation was eventually managed by local entrepeneurs as well as by the local authorities, who succeeded in establishing in Ozorków a greenfield sub-zone of the Lodz Special Economic Zone. A number of municipal investmet projects were subsequantly carred out - especially concerning local transportation system, water supply and waste management. Although the authorities claim to co-operate successfully with the local enrepreneurs, they fail to take advantage of co-operation with other municipalities. Also, the matter of territorial marketing is underestimated and certanly needs some action.
