The aim of the study was to establish the relationship between stress at work, self-efficacy
belief and burnout syndrome in fire-fighters. 100 subjects participated in the study. The mean of
age was 34 years. The Perceived Job Stress Characteristics Questionnaire, Generalized Self-Efficacy
Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory were used in the study. Positive relationship between stress
at work, and two dimensions of burnout syndrome: emotional exhaustion and depersonalization
was revealed. Self-efficacy belief appeared factor differentiating level of emotional exhaustion but
only in fire-fighters with low level of occupational stress.

Wybrane sposoby kontrolowania agresji dzieci i młodzieży
Poraj, Grazyna
The permanent increase in aggression in children, youth and adults accounts for the urgent
need of searching for the most effective ways of controlling and reducing this dangerous phenomenon.
This article presents a selection of methods, based on the ground of applied psychology and aimed
at dealing with the problem mentioned above.
The author describes the mechanism, called ‘katharsis’, which serves a purpose of relieving
accumulated, negative emotions, emphasizing the fact that giving vent to one’s anger does not
lways lead to expected results. The same refers to punishing aggressive behaviour. The immediate results of this process are usually superficial and do not always mean a stable change in character.
Finally, the punishment – to be effective requires certain condiotions to be fulfilled, which is very
often neglected.
The work contains a set of already tested, interventional programs, intended to correct improper
behaviour of children and youth. The particular purposes are: teaching empathy, training the ability
of coping with conflicts, modelling on pro- social behaviours, building basic values, opposing
mobbing at schools, dealing with negative emotions and creating an internal interventional program at schools.
The range of psychological offers, aimed at reducing aggression is wide. They are all worth
popularizing, although it is good to remember that it is always better to prevent evil, than deal with its cosequences.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between need for stimulation and
cognitive-behavioral style of personal activity. The preferences for the specified form of cognitive
and behavioral styles is considered as a regulatory process of stimulation. The results showed that
on the cognitive level the need for cognitive closure can be examined as a form of stimulation
input control. However, on the behavioral level these relations are more complex. The expected
positive relation between the point strategy and low need for stimulation have not been confirmed.
These outcomes was explained by the transactional approach.

The aim of this study was to estimate the relationship between personality of 66 healthy
women and 66 women with type 2 diabetes. The average age of both groups was 63. I use the
16th Personality Factors Test by Cattell. A lower level of intelligence characterizes the personality
of a diabetic, they are more submissive, effusive and responsible. They are calmer and more
practical in their behavior. Healthy women are more self-sufficient and unconventional.
