In the first part of the article the authors present a brief historical overview of housing development and contemporary location of residential areas in the examined small town. Analysis of housing conditions, the results of which were presented in the second part of the paper, were based on surveys conducted in 2013, which also allowed to obtain an inhabitants’ opinions on the subject. Representatives of territorial units employ various strategies designed to improve the residents’ living conditions, which translates into higher quality of life. This, however, would not be possible without taking into account the opinions and preferences of the residents. Public opinion is a key element in taking actions to enhance the quality of life because it makes the management of this process more effective. This article presents the results of surveys concerning evaluation of selected aspects of the quality of life in Uniejów, such as accessibility of certain services and functioning of key institutions in the town. From beginning of 1980s average time, in yearly perspective, in which the river was frozen was over two months, with ice cover appearing almost annualy. The years in which the river was frozen the longest are were 1947, 1954−1955, 1962−1964 and 1979, which coincides with the occurrences of coldest and longest winters in this region of Poland. The research shows however, that the ice phenomena on Warta River in vicinity of Uniejów, are determined not only by climate factors, but also, in a great extent, by Jeziorsko Reservoir, from the very beginning of its utilization. Construction of this reservoir, completed in 1986, resulted in a decrease of the duration of ice occurrences by nearly three times, and the complete freezing of the river became a rare phenomenon. 2014-12-01T00:00:00Z http://hdl.handle.net/11089/6037 Dostępność transportowa Uniejowa – ujęcie regionalne Wiśniewski, Szymon This article investigates transport accessibility of Uniejów – a small town in Łódź voivodeship. It has been assessed through analysis of transport infrastructure in qualitative and quantitative terms, and effectiveness of public and individual transport in the temporal and economic aspect. All measurements were put in the topological perspective, with reference to the remaining 43 towns of Łódź voivodeship. This enabled identification of the degree of Uniejów’s transport accessibility in the settlement network of the region. Quick, safe and possibly inexpensive transport connections are particularly important for Uniejów because of its spa and recreational function. 2014-12-01T00:00:00Z
