Abstract
The paper discusses the concept of ethnic stereotype and its main characteristics (simplicity, emotionality, evaluativeness, caricatural nature, and relative stability), and covers the issues of stereotype structure. The author examines various methods for studying ethnic stereotypes within the linguistic approach. The work aims to identify the ethnic stereotype of a Ukrainian by using different techniques. The author makes an association experiment according to the method proposed by I. M. Kobozeva, and compares the results with the data from E. E. Levkievskaya, E. Ya. Shmeleva and A. D. Shmelev’s studies. The comparison of the experimental data obtained by the author with the results from other studies suggests that the perception of Ukrainians in the Russian linguistic worldview is not definite. The article concludes that using a comprehensive approach when studying ethic stereotypes is necessary.
