Streszczenie
David’s Psalter by Mikołaj Rej is a prose paraphrase of The Book of Psalms which main aim was to make the biblical text approachable to a 16-century recipient. The pursuit of the concretization contributed to the continuous interference of the translator in the semantic and stylistic layer of the text, while the method of paraphrase resulted in the growth of the lexicon. Rej extended the structure of the similes and interspersed them with evaluative epithets and phrases in the form of subordinate clauses, which aim was to complement and specify the text. Similarly, the phraseological layer of David’s Psalter is not uniform: in addition to traditional, set expressions, identified with the biblical style, there is abundance of new phrases.
