Data set for the article "Cuban-style Salsa: Intersections of Tourism-led Entrepreneurship and Dancing Personal Development"

Abstract

The project addresses Cuban work in transnational contexts in order to analyze how bodily skills, along with symbolic and cultural capital, are employed so as to access different social worlds and to establish one’s position as a professional on an otherwise difficult labor market. In examining the connection between mobility and artistic work, the project puts forward a retrospective analysis of mobility, by focusing on Cuban migrants who work as dancers and dance teachers in Europe and an analysis of the prerequisites for mobility, by focusing on Cubans who (still) live and work in Cuba and who became involved in the dance business as a potential pathway for mobility.
