The dataset includes illustrative material used in the article "Archaeology and "Life Unworthy of Life:" The Extermination of People with Mental Disorders or Disabilities in Death Valley, Chojnice, Poland, published in the Journal of Field Archaeology. It discusses the mass murder of mentally ill people that took place in the autumn of 1939 in Gdańsk Pomerania, Poland. A case study is provided of the mass murder committed near Chojnice—in a place later named Death Valley. The key part of the article is a discussion of the results of archaeological research that allowed for the discovery, documentation, and interpretation of the remains of the victims.
