Abstract
The article of Robert Dzięcielski “I asked about the city and the armchair at home…, or about domestication of Lodz” is an attempt of anthropological re-reading the contemporary meaning of the center of Lodz which is Piotrkowska Street. The metaphor of home let us interpret an urban space as something necessary in taming and domestication process. The monuments-sculptures of Gallery of Great Citizens of Lodz, which are localized at the Piotrkowska Street, truly support this idea. The famous people, who are commemorated at the monument forms, are companioned by commonly known accessories, like furnitures and chairs as well. Symbolical fitting the public space by furniture triggers social interactions. The chair in the center of Lodz is becoming the sign of domesticated city.
