Abstract
An illegitimate birth frequency is accepted as an index of the non-traditional
family life form dissemination. Is such post-modern form of ”be together” popular
in Poland too? This article tries to answer the question on basis of current
population statistics. The data analysis indicates the importance of the generation
agent in forming number and fraction of illegitimate births. An increased
number of illegitimate births and an increased popularity of the extramarital
procreation (in contradiction to the second demographic transition concept)
were observed during the analysis. The real reason of frequent illegitimate
births in some social groups is a possibility to receive social benefits which are
unavailable to married cauples.
