The Importance of Small Private Firms in Combating Unemployment in the Łódź Region
Abstract
In this paper, unemployment in the Łódź area, its specific structural
characteristics and the methods of combating unemployment is presented.
It is also examined the influence of the establishment and development of small
firms on unemployment. The significance of small firms on the employment
market is presented on the basis of empirical studies conducted by the authors
in 87 small private firms in the Łódź area in 1998-1999. From this study it can
be concluded that there is a strong relationship between unemployment levels
and the development of small firms. Any effort towards the establishment and
support of small firms is also an effort to combat unemployment.
