Czasopismo "Zeszyty Wiejskie" powstało w 1998 roku jako biuletyn informacyjno-naukowy Interdyscyplinarnego Zespołu Badania Wsi Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego.
Ma charakter interdyscyplinarny. Publikuje artykuły, recenzje i inne materiały naukowe dotyczące szeroko rozumianej tematyki wiejskiej (rural studies), z zakresu m.in.: nauk o kulturze i religii, historii, archeologii, nauk o sztuce, literaturoznawstwa; nauk socjologicznych, nauk prawnych, ekonomii i finansów, geografii społeczno-ekonomicznej i gospodarki przestrzennej; nauk leśnych, rolnictwa i ogrodnictwa; architektury i urbanistyki.
