Abstract

The goal of the article is to present Napoleon Bonaparte’s attitude towards religion and the Church, which was expressed in the social and political life of France during his reign. The main point of inquiry was the then situation of the Church and its relations with the French state, sacralization and desacralisation, secularization and Catholicization, as well as the legitimacy of the authorities. A separate element of research is the religiosity of the French emperor.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie stosunku Napoleona Bonapartego do religii i Kościoła, co wyrażało się w życiu społeczno-politycznym Francji w czasie jego rządów. Za główny punkt dociekań przyjęto sytuację Kościoła i jego relacje z państwem francuskim, sakralizację i desakralizację, laicyzację i katolicyzację, a także legitymizm władzy. Osobny element badań stanowi religijność cesarza Francuzów.
