Życie małżeńskie Stefanii z Lemańskich i Wacława Rzewuskich w świetle źródeł epistolarnych
Abstract
Private life of landed gentry has been a subject of interest of the researchers for years. The purpose of this article is to present the private life of landed gentry, and on the other hand to show the history of women. The references data of this article are the materials from the Archives of Rzewuski’s from Bratoszewice, available at the National? Archives in Łódź. Furthermore, a diary of Stefania, as well as her correspondence to Wacław Rzewuski and the her other relatives, have been used by the author as references data as well. The aim of the presentation is to show the fullest possible picture of private life of the Stefania Lemańska Rzewuska during her long stays in health resorts. In this paper, the author is focusing her attention on the marital relationship of Waclaw and Stefania. The author raises questions such as: was their long-distance relationship successful or not? How did the relation between husband and wife shape, and how did it affect the upbringing of their child? How did the health treatment look like in the 19th century and what methods were used? And finally, what was a young landlady gentry doing away from her home? In the presented article the author attempts to find answers to these and other questions.
