Abstract

Rural tourism stands a chance of new, not existing so far, perspectives of development related, first of all, to revitalisation of rural regions. Tourists services bring along new job positions, change of social consciousness, growing respect for and interest in environment. Rural tourism is also observed as one of the elements of multifunctional development of rural regions and, at the same time, as an alternative source of income. Tourism being a chance for rural regions, however, badly managed can bring about some threats. That is why, it is so important to correlate it with natural environment and the conception of eco-development. The need to create ecological tourist services refers both to producers and consumers. While creating tourism, some changes in favour of reasonable development of the environment should be taken into consideration, such changes as: undertaking and introducing such legal, economic or institutional decisions, which while reaching compromise would reconcile often-opposing aims specific for economic and social development of the region. Such a complex approach seems to be of special importance, if we realize the fact that economic development is, first of all essential while creating regional or local strategies. Local authorities, councils and their regional structures, some institutions sponsoring tourism, local mass media, play a vital role in creating and promoting various forms of rural tourism. Regional associations and farmers’ unions dealing, among others with argi-tourism, can be co-ordinating many activities.
