Sprawozdanie z debaty wokół książki Prof. Hansa-Jürgena Bömelburga pt. „Lodz –Geschichte Einer Multikulturellen industriestadt im 20. Jahrhundert”, Łódź, 1 grudnia 2022 r.

Abstract

Lodz is a city that in the 19th century became a phenomenon almost on a European scale looking through the prism of the speed and scale of development. From a small agricultural town in less than a century, it grew into a large industrial city with a multicultural character. In 2023, Lodz will celebrate the 600th anniversary of the granting of city rights, hence a number of initiatives to commemorate the event. A monograph authored by Prof. Hans-Jürgen Bömel-burg of Justus Liebig University in Giessen is part of this anniversary. On December 1, 2022, the Institute of History at the University of Lodz hosted a debate on this book, which provided an opportunity to confront the Polish and German perceptions of the history of “Polish Manchester.”

Łódź to miasto, które w XIX w. stało się fenomenem wręcz na skalę europejską, patrząc przez pryzmat tempa i skali rozwoju. Z niewielkiego rolniczego miasteczka w przeciągu niespełna wieku powstało wielkie przemysłowe miasto o wielokulturowym charakterze. W 2023 r. Łódź będzie obchodziła jubileusz 600-lecia nadania praw miejskich, stąd też pojawiło się szereg inicjatyw upamiętnienia wydarzenia. Monografia autorstwa prof. Hansa-Jürgena Bömelburga z Uniwersytetu im. Justusa Liebiga w Giessen wpisuje się w ten jubileusz. W dniu 1 grudnia 2022 r. w Instytucie Historii Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego odbyła się debata nad tą książką, która dała możliwość konfrontacji polskiego i niemieckiego sposobu postrzegania dziejów „polskiego Manchesteru”.
