| dc.contributor.authorBiographicalnote | Joanna Kosmalska graduated in English from the University of Lodz, where she currently works, having studied at University College Dublin in Ireland and Flensburg Universität in Germany.
In 2008-2009, she carried out research on teaching English to immigrant pupils in primary schools in Dublin greater area. The research provided the foundation for her MA thesis on “Teaching English as a Second Language to Immigrant Primary Pupils in Ireland.” The results were subsequently published in the journal “Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis” (2012). They also laid the groundwork for an EU funded postgraduate teacher training programme which she ran at the University of Lodz.
From 2011 to 2015, she initiated and led the international project "Polish (E)migration Literature in Britain and Ireland since 2004," financed by the National Science Centre (www.emigracja.uni.lodz.pl/en). Subsequently, from 2016 to 2019, she was an investigator in the "Talking Transformations: Home on the Move" project led by Ricarda Vidal and Manuela Perteghella at King's College London, which examined how the notion of "home" had changed under the forces of migration and globalization. Later, she was part of the international research network "Experimental Translation," led by Madeleine Campbell and Ricarda Vidal and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, within which she investigated intersemiotic translation. Currently, she explores migration drama and theatre produced by Polish migrants in Ireland, the UK, and the US in the research project "Theatrical Heritage of Polish Migrants".
She has been invited to give lectures at universities in Germany, Ireland, Poland, Switzerland, and the UK. She has published articles and chapters on Polish writing in Ireland and the UK, interviews with writers and created a Virtual Archive titled "The Polish Diaspora in the UK and Ireland: Migrations in Literature and Culture" (http://archiwum-emigracja.uni.lodz.pl/en/). In addition to her academic endeavours, she works as a film and literary translator and teaches courses on literary, film, and intersemiotic translation at the University of Łódź. | pl_PL |
