Abstract

The developing international division of labour leads to intensification of integration processes in the contemporary world. The main goal of integration is to increase effectiveness of economic management in Integrating countries. For integration to be able to bring benefits for all partners it is necessary for integrating countries to represent a similar level of economic development. The article attempts to answer the question whether there was made any significant progress in the field of equalization of economic development levels in selected CMEA countries over the years 1964-1985 and, thus, whether one of basic goals of socialist integration is being accomplished in this economic grouping. There are presented results of numerical computations of indices concerning economic development levels, which have been carried out by means of the taxonomic method. It also shows an attempt to utilize the obtained results in analysis of economic development stages in the countries under study.
