Wkład Profesor Heleny Więckowskiej w opracowanie zbiorów rękopiśmiennych Biblioteki Batignolskiej
Abstract
The article presents prof. Helena Więckowska as a manuscript scientist.
The first part of the text describes Professor’s activity and her output in the manuscript science. It also reminds prof. Helena Więckowska’s various articles, her participation in conferences devoted to manuscript science and her educational achievements. The next part of the article presents a short history of The Polish School in Batignolles in Paris and its Library, as well as the history of the manuscript collections belonging to it. The main part of the text concerns prof. H. Więckowska’s valuable and very important contribution to the arrangement of the Batignolles manuscripts. Firstly, she gathered all the manuscripts in one place. Next, they were divided into the following parts: documents of The Library of The Polish Democratic Society, the emigration heritage, the deposit documents, the holdings of emigration organizations from the years 1863–1864, institutions exercising The National Government’s function, and various documents showing the cultural and educational activity of the Polish emigration. The published catalogue of the Batignolles manuscripts, arranged by prof. H. Więckowska, is the only proof of the existence of this collection, which was destroyed during the Second World War.
