Abstract

Artykuł jest próbą wyjaśnienia przyczyn zmienności i różnorodności współczesnej geografii człowieka. Kształtowała się ona jako dziedzina naukowa sięgająca z jednej strony do swych geograficznych antenatów, takich jak Friedrich Ratzel, Carl Ritter czy Paul Vidal de la Blache, a z drugiej strony czerpiąca obficie z metodologii nauk społecznych i humanistycznych. Począwszy od lat 60. XX wieku stała się dyscypliną otwartą, ulegającą wpływom różnych koncepcji społecznych i humanistycznych.

The paper is an attempt to explain the reasons for variability and inconstancy in modern human geography. The pivotal quality of the development of this branch of science since the mid‐20th century consists of paradigmatic changes or modifications, which are an immediate consequence of the transformation from classical paradigm phase through the period of the domineering positivistic research model to the current post‐positivistic and post‐paradigmatic phases of the research model. In the latter phases, geography has been developing in accordance with the postpositivistic model of the functioning of the social sciences. Its mechanism is based on the endurance of geographic thought, which encompasses abstract, general, and metaphysical components on the one hand, and empirical and factual on the other.
