Abstract

The subject of this article is Jerzy Limon’s novel Młot na poetów albo Kronika ściętych głów, which examines the problem of producing knowledge about the past. The novel presents the workshop of a historian (not only a representative of an academic discipline but also a historian-amateur). Limon uses historiographical metaphors (archive, museum, collection, gallery of readymades) to describe the process of acquiring historical sources and figures of rewriting history (montage, remix, puzzle, torn paper collage) to describe the ways of utilizing these sources.
