Abstract
The subject of analysis are toponyms from Działoszyn and its neighbourhood. Działoszyn is a town in Lodz region, where in the mid-20th century, as the result of rapid industrialization, significant civilization changes were to observe. The author compares the microtoponyms existing in the memory of the oldest and middle-aged inhabitants to the historical material, excavated from the town records of the 16th–18th centuries. She also confronts it with the state of linguistic awareness of the youngest generation. The analysis illustrates the stability of certain names and the disappearance of other ones. The reasons for that is the type of objects, their unchanging meaning for users as well as the civilization developments. A need to collect the remaining microtoponyms was indicated as an urgent task for the onomastics
