Abstract
The subject of interest is the contemporary situation of reading habits and changes taking place in this area in France among young people (teenagers) upon completion of education at the école primaire level, i.e. from about 11 years old. The main sources include publications containing statements and reports on readership studies conducted, among others materials on the subject printed in the “Bulletin des Bibliotheques de France” in 2000. The profile takes into account such aspects as the status and dynamics
of reading habits in recent years, reading-related interests and the role of reading in the life of teenagers. A general view depicts a community reading books and magazines, and participating in a variety of other cultural practices, in accordance with the spirit of the times.
