The aim of the paper is to analyze the problem of current account imbalances in the euro zone. The theory of current account balance, namely the relation between the domestic production and absorption, domestic savings and investments as well as the Feldstein-Horioka puzzle is outlined. Then, the current accounts’ evolution and determinants in chosen countries, i.e. Greece, Portugal, Spain, Ireland and, as a counterexample, Germany is depicted. Afterwards, the potential consequences of current account deficit accumulation i.e. foreign debt increase and its possible results is presented. Finally, potential ways to reduce the current account deficits are described and an attempt to draw conclusions for Poland in the light of the euro zone entry is made.pl_PL
