Uwagi o argumencie „ad absurdum”

Abstract

Łaciński termin „reductio ad absurdum” oznacza redukcję czegoś (zdań, tez, doktryn, sposobów argumentacji, definicji, instrukcji, etc.) do absurdu. Jest to jeden z najbardziej popularnych argumentów, wykorzystywanych nie tylko w matematyce czy logice, lecz także w każdej sferze wykorzystującej argumentację ( nauki przyrodnicze, humanistyka, prawo, filozofia, jak również potoczny dyskurs). W artykule omawiane są pewne metodologiczne problemy i trudności związane ze stosowaniem tego argumentu w sferze nauki, prawa, czy też w domenie dyskursu potocznego.

“Reductio ad absurdum” (Latin term) means to reduce something (proposition, thesis, modes of argumentation, definition, instruction, etc.) to absurdity. It is one of the most common arguments used not only in mathematics and logic but in every discipline that employs argumentation (sciences, humanities, law, philosophy, everyday discourse, etc.). In this paper I discuss some methodological problems and difficulties in application of argumentum ad absurdum in areas of science, law and in everyday discourse.
