Abstract
The XIXth century brought serious changes in fashion scene, and headgear was also changed. The purpose of the chapter is to present and characterize women's headwear, which were popularized by selected Polish magazines from the first half of the XIXth century. It's worth to point out, that on the papers of this writings, the presented fashion was addressed promarily to wealthy social group – the landownersm, bourgeoisie and part of the intelligentsia. The analysis of the sources suggests that headwear fashion during this period was characterized by constant diversity. The hats were adjusted to the prevailing canon of fashion. The change was not only the type of hat to be applied, but also the material from which it was made and the decoration. It can be stated that there was one rule: the more elaborate and abundant the ornaments on the female head, the hat was considered more unique. The creativity counted.
