Streszczenie
The objective of the paper is to present an analysis of the process of translation of
a Polish poetic text by Michal JoZwiak into the environment of Russian language and Russian
associations. This illustration proves that the theoretical framework of cognitive linguistics can
be profitably applied in translation studies.
One of the fundamental concepts in literary studies, and at the same time in cognitive
understanding of language and grammar is imagery. As it has been shown, seen in terms of
imagery, the process of translation becomes more like an individual interpretation of a text
than a reproduction of the meaning included in its original version.
