The dataset contains a comparison, based on selected sample material, of two Church Slavic versions of the chronicle of George the Monk, known as Hamartolus: 1. a hitherto unpublished Church Slavic translation of Balkan provenance from the 14th century, found in more than a dozen manuscripts, i.a. ГИМ, Син. 148 – probably corresponding to the original Byzantine version, preserved in its complete form in a Greek manuscript in the National Library of France in Paris (Coislinianus 305); 2. the oldest Old Church Slavic (Old Bulgarian) translation, extremely popular in the historiography of medieval Rus’ and preserved in dozens of copies and subvariants from the 14th–17th centuries, i.a. РГБ, 173.I.100 – corresponding to a later Byzantine version, the so-called vulgata, known from a number of Greek copies.
