Consonnes géminées et accent tonique en italien langue étrangère : exemple des francophones avancés

Abstract

This article presents a study conducted with French-speaking participants who are advanced learners of Italian, focusing on their pronunciation and perception of Italian phonological features, such as consonant gemination and stress, which are crucial for semantic distinction in Italian. The first part of the article describes these features in both Italian and French. The following section presents the methodology of the study, which is divided into two parts: the perception and the production of the studied features. The results show that, despite a good command of geminated consonants and stress by the participants, difficulties remain in recognising semantic differences due to stress and geminated consonants, particularly bilabial and labiodental ones. Some issues also persist with stress on the preantepenultimate syllable. These results suggest that although the group demonstrates a high level of proficiency, they could benefit from targeted improvement.

Cet article présente une étude menée auprès de locuteurs francophones maîtrisant l’italien à un niveau avancé, portant sur leur prononciation et perception des caractéristiques phonologiques italiennes, telles que la gémination des consonnes et l’accent tonique, cruciaux pour la distinction sémantique en italien. La première partie de l’article décrit ces traits en italien et en français. La section suivante présente la méthodologie de l’étude qui se divise en deux volets : la perception et la production des traits étudiés. Les résultats montrent que malgré une bonne maîtrise des consonnes géminées et de l’accent tonique chez les participants, des difficultés subsistent dans la reconnaissance des différences sémantiques dues à l’accent tonique et des consonnes géminées, notamment bilabiales et labio-dentales. Quelques problèmes persistent également avec l’accentuation sur la pré-antépénultième syllabe. Ces résultats suggèrent que, bien que le groupe affiche un niveau élevé, il pourrait bénéficier d’une amélioration ciblée.
