Cooperation between the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Lodz and archaeologists from South Korea began in 2000, initiated by students who were also active in the Society of Friends of the Korean People. Their interest in the country was motivated by a desire to learn more about the earliest settlements in Southeast Asia. The students’ initiative was supported by the then director of the Institute, Professor Lech Kajzer, who entrusted the organisation of this collaboration to the Stone Age Department, reflecting the initiators’ interest in the Stone Age.With assistance from the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Seoul and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Warsaw, the students’ application was submitted to Korean universities. A positive response was received from Chungbuk National University.Since 2001, the conference series “Suyanggae and Her Neighbours” has served as the main forum for Polish-Korean cooperation. This series of international conferences was established in 1996 by Prof. Lee Yung-jo. The name of the conference refers to the Palaeolithic workshops discovered in Suyanggae, located in the central part of the Korean Peninsula, in the valley of the southern Han River. Participation in these conferences allowed the Institute to present the results of Stone Age research. The Institute of Archaeology at the University of Lodz has organised two conferences in this series, the first in 2006 and the second in 2014.en
Od roku 2001 głównym forum współpracy polsko-koreańskiej stały się konferencje z cyklu „Suyanggae and Her Neighbours”. Wymieniony cykl konferencji międzynarodowych powołał prof. Lee Yung-jo w roku 1996. Nazwa konferencji nawiązuje do pracowni paleolitycznych odkrytych w miejscowości Suyanggae położonej w centralnej części Półwyspu Koreańskiego, w dolinie południowej rzeki Han. Udział w wymienionych konferencjach pozwolił nam na zaprezentowanie wyników badań nad epoką kamienia prowadzonych w naszym Instytucie.Instytut Archeologii Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego zorganizował dwie konferencje z omawianego cyklu, pierwsza odbyła się w roku 2006, a druga – w roku 2014.pl
