Dataset of Interview Recordings and Transcripts with Smart Home (Art) Creators – Work Package 2 of the project “SMARTUP: Smart(ening up the modern) home – Redesigning power dynamics through domestic space digitalisation” (CHANSE Scheme)
Streszczenie
This dataset contains qualitative materials generated within Work Package 2 (Art & Popular Culture) of the SMARTUP project, from a component focused on mapping artistic and cultural narratives of smartness. The data derive from online semi-structured interviews with six creators (artists and designers) who develop visions of smart homes or design smart home technologies. Interviews were conducted primarily in English, with one interview carried out in Polish. The conversations explore how these practitioners understand the idea of a “smart home” and position themselves in relation to technology (e.g. as techno-enthusiasts or techno-sceptics). Participants discuss their projects and practices, including the types of works they produce, the institutional and financial contexts in which they operate, and the conceptual frameworks they use to approach smart homes. Across the interviews, attention is paid to themes such as sustainability, inclusivity, security and privacy, as well as gender and other intersecting social categories. The dataset further documents how the creators think about power relations and care in domestic settings, their intended audiences, and the social or environmental impacts they hope to achieve, along with their inspirations and engagements with popular and cultural representations of future homes.
