The author represents a view that in the contemporary capitalist economy there is a controversy regarding the way in which the eoonomy should be functioning and the role which the state performs and should perform in this process . The prevailing doctrlnesln the contemporary Western econonomy have been so far Keynesism and neo-Keynesism, which subscribe to a view that self - regulation mechanisms tend to fall and that their operatio leads to cyclical fluctuations , unemployment and disequilibrium i n payments balances. The seventies brought a revival of the neo - liberal concepts , lncluding neo-conservative ones , which find their fullest expression i n M. Friedman’s neo-monetarism. This trend tends to rank foremost with reduction of any active undertakings of the government being a leading idea in th e economic theory and practice.
