Streszczenie
The performed analysis of unemployment covers the first three years, during which the
Lodz Region operated in its new boundaries. The country’s administrative division carried
out in 1999 brought about major changes in the region’s economy. At present a significant
role is played by agriculture, whereas earlier on it was the most urbanised region in Poland.
Such situation influences also changes in the structure of unemployment. This problem is
analysed in greater detail in the article. The following research problems have been distinguished:
level and structure oľ unemployment, selected problems groups concerning the local labour
market, inflow and outflow from unemployment, the labour market policy.
