This publication is a brief synthesis of the pedagogical activity of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, a French humanist reformer whose ideas about the upbringing and education of children and young people seem to be still valid and original. The reform of the education system, the quest for inclusion in the school curriculum physical education, moral and civil life is the main task of his pedagogical activity. Inspired by the educational methods of Thomas Arnold he recognizes that young people need in the process of upbringing the freedom of choice, creativity in action and the ability to use a variety of sporting activities at school and during their free time. He was convinced that sports activity not only improves a physical ability, but has also a positive effect on mental strength and moral education of the young generation. Pierre de Coubertin almost to the last years of his life with an innate enthusiasm and commitment to teaching presents his views in the press, books and public lectures, constantly stressing the importance of sporting activities in the development and shaping of the personality of children and the youth.
