This article analyses the issue of eating disorders in men from a gender perspective, focusing on the role of stereotypes, stigmatisation, and self-stigmatisation as significant psychosocial factors that hinder diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Based on a narrative review of 50 academic publications from 2000 to 2024, the text demonstrates that the stereotypical perception of eating disorders (EDs) as a “female disorder” leads to underdiagnosis in men and deepens their suffering. The article also discusses differences in clinical presentation, cultural barriers, and the influence of hegemonic masculinity norms on delayed help-seeking. It highlights the need to revise diagnostic tools and therapeutic practices to be more gender-inclusive and calls for educational efforts to counteract the stigmatisation of men with EDs.en
