Filmowa chłopomania – o malowanej adaptacji Chłopów

Abstract

The article is an attempt to examine the latest adaptation of Reymont's novel The Peasants, directed by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman, in the context of the Young Poland movement's fascination with peasantry, known as "chłopomania." It refers to previous film adaptations and compares the key elements of their reviews. The article also discusses significant differences between the cinematic portrayal of Jagna and her literary original. This analysis reveals that the character in question has not, in fact, been modernized in the latest animation. Furthermore, the film is not an example of a creative betrayal of the adapted work, but rather a case of folklorized rural imagery.

Artykuł jest próbą spojrzenia na najnowszą adaptację powieści Reymonta pt. Chłopi w reżyserii DK Welchman i Hugh Welchmana w kontekście młodopolskiej chłopomanii. Odwołano się do poprzednich adaptacji filmowych i porównano najważniejsze elementy ich recenzji. Omówiono również znaczące różnice w filmowym obrazie Jagny i jej literackim pierwowzorze. To pozwoliło ustalić, że ta postać wcale nie została uwspółcześniona w najnowszej animacji. Film nie jest również przykładem twórczej zdrady adaptowanego dzieła, a jedynie przykładem sfolkloryzowanej ludowości.
