Przeobrażenia terenów pofortecznych na przykładzie Torunia w świetle koncepcji M.R.G. Conzena

Abstract

Zagospodarowanie terenów dawnych fortyfikacji w krajobrazie miast europejskich obejmuje zwykle reprezentacyjne budowle instytucjonalne i tereny o funkcjach publicznych. Stanowi czytelną strefę będącą świadectwem dawnej potęgi historycznych miast i podkreśla odrębność obszarów pofortecznych w ich strukturze przestrzennej. Tworzy jednocześnie przedłużenie zespołu staromiejskiego oraz zapewnia strefę wypoczynku i rekreacji dla mieszkańców aglomeracji miejskich. Przeobrażenia strefy dawnych fortyfikacji w Toruniu doprowadziły do powstania krajobrazu miejskiego, który można przyrównać do wielu miast europejskich. W artykule, na tle rozwoju nowożytnych fortyfikacji bastionowych w Europie i w Polsce, dokonano charakterystyki rozwoju fortyfikacji miejskich w Toruniu (cz. prawobrzeżnej), analizy ich późniejszych przeobra- żeń oraz zagospodarowania w kontekście koncepcji fringe belt M.R.G. Conzena.

The development of the former fortification zones in the urban landscape of European cities includes usually the representational institutional buildings and areas of public functions. It provides a clear zone which is a testimony of the power of the old historic towns, but also it emphasizes separateness of post-fortification areas in the urban spatial structure. At the same time the post-fortification development creates an extension of the old town and provides a recreation zone for urban residents. Transformations of former fortifications zone in Toruń led to the creation of the urban landscape, which can be compared to many European cities. In the paper, on the background of the development of modern bastion fortifications in Europe and Poland, the characteristics of the development of the city’s fortifications in Toruń was made (right bank part), as well as analysis of their subsequent transformation and development in the context of the concept of fringe belt by M.R.G. Conzen.
