Young Reader in the View of the Mixed-Methods Research
Abstract
The paper deals with the application of mixed methodology applied on the research of children’s reading activities. Both statistical data and psychosocial approach are discussed. A reader is taken as a unit with its own social status which reading is classified as a behavior having an individual meaning and value. Psychosocial aspects of children’s reading can be measured by psychometry using semantic differential and Q-methodology. Using those methods the individual psychological meaning of reading, readership, reader and being a reader are shown. Q-types and their distribution can be used for description of a reading value. The author wants to apply a broad spectrum of research methods as a tool for the effective analysis of nowadays young readers.
