Zróżnicowania w przestrzennym układzie handlu detalicznego Łodzi - wyniki badań

Abstract

The article presents the findings of the studies aiming at determination of the scale and directions of changes in spatial distribution of retail trade in Łódź over the years 1970-1900. Detailed analysis of reatail stores in their branch cross-section hau revealed that evaluation processes in distribution of trade activity do not correspond with socio-economic transformations occurring in the city's space. This concerns, among others, the phenomenon of an increasingly bigger number of housing districts, mainly on the outskirts of the city. Continued (although diminishing over time) heavy concentration of the trade network in the city's centre goes beyong its typically urban functions, especially in the sphere of the so-called "primary" trade, including trade in foodstuffs. Underdevelopment of the trade network in the remaining parts of the city, especially in residential districts produces numeroua unfavourable consequences dislocating the effective functioning of the big urban organism.
