Abstract

Considering the current state of genre theory, the problem of genre is viewed the experience of modernism and avant-garde, which provoked the deepest critique of the effectiveness of "genre" as a category. The article seeks to prove that in these artistic movements genre keeps the significance of a fundamental law of creative production. The article also characterized the major variations of genre structures in modernist and avant-garde works.
