Czasopismo od 1976 roku ukazywało się pod nazwą "Acta Uniwersitatis Lodziensis, Zeszyty Naukowe Uniwersytetu Łodzkiego, Nauki Humanistyczno-Społeczne, Folia Archaeologica". Od 1980 roku periodyk ukazuje się pod obecnym tytułem.
Zamieszczane na łamach czasopisma prace poświęcone są przede wszystkim zagadnieniom archeologicznym, historycznym i antropologicznym.
